Privacy policy
Applies to the Mattarello app for iPhone and iPad, and to this website. Last updated 17 August 2026.
The short version. Mattarello has no account, no analytics and no advertising. Your recipes, shopping list, pantry and photos stay in the app on your own device. Scanning and calculating happen there too. The app only reaches the internet for three things: the optional download of the assistant's model, your purchase through the App Store, and iCloud sync if you switch it on. This website uses Google Analytics only after you accept it.
1. Who we are
Mattarello is made by The Dutch Logic Co., based in the Netherlands. For anything in this policy you can reach us at support@thedutchlogic.nl.
Where this policy uses the word "we", it means The Dutch Logic Co. Where it says "the app", it means Mattarello for iPhone and iPad.
2. What the app stores, and where
Everything you put into Mattarello is stored in the app's own database on your device. That includes:
- Your recipes: name, course, time, servings, ingredients, notes and any photo you add
- Your shopping list, including which recipes you planned and for how many people
- Your pantry: what you have in the house and how much of it is left
- Your settings, such as units and whether iCloud sync is on
- A note of whether Mattarello Plus is unlocked, so the app knows at startup
We have no server, so none of this is sent to us. We cannot see your recipes, and we would not know how to look. Delete the app and everything stored on the device goes with it.
3. Camera and photos
The app asks for access to your camera when you photograph a recipe or a receipt, and for access to your photo library when you pick an existing picture. Both are asked for by iOS, both can be refused, and refusing them only disables that specific feature.
Photos you take for scanning are read on the device and are not stored anywhere by us. A photo you deliberately add to a recipe is saved with that recipe, in the app's own database.
Reading the text from a photo is done by Apple's Vision framework, which runs on your device. Making sense of that text is done by the assistant's model, which also runs on your device.
4. When the app uses the internet
There are exactly three moments Mattarello reaches out, and you can see all of them coming:
- Downloading the assistant. If you choose to download the cooking assistant, the app fetches the model file (Qwen3 4B, about 2,5 GB) from Hugging Face, where the model's maker publishes it. That request is a plain file download and carries nothing of yours with it.
- Your purchase. Buying or restoring Mattarello Plus goes through Apple's App Store, using StoreKit. See Purchases.
- iCloud sync. Only if you switch it on. See iCloud sync.
There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising network and no tracking of any kind in the app. Nothing you cook, buy or scan is transmitted.
5. iCloud sync
With Mattarello Plus you can switch on "Store in iCloud". Your recipes, shopping list and pantry are then synchronised through Apple's CloudKit, in the private database of your own iCloud account, between devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
That data is stored by Apple, under Apple's terms and privacy policy, and it is not accessible to us. The app also receives silent notifications from CloudKit so that a change on one device shows up on the other. Switch the option off and the app carries on locally, with your recipes staying on the device.
If the app cannot connect to iCloud, it continues locally and tells you so, rather than pretending your recipes are safely stored somewhere they are not.
6. Purchases
Mattarello Plus is sold through the App Store. The payment, the subscription and any refund are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, your name or your address. What we receive from Apple is aggregated sales information, which does not identify you.
The app asks StoreKit whether this Apple Account is entitled to Plus, and remembers the answer on the device so it knows at startup. Cancelling a subscription is done in your Apple Account settings, not in the app.
7. This website
This site is hosted in Europe. The server keeps standard access logs, which include the IP address, the page requested and the time, for security and troubleshooting. Those logs are not used to build a profile of you.
We use Google Analytics to count visits, but only after you have accepted it in the cookie notice. Choose "Do not accept" and no analytics script is loaded at all, and nothing is tracked. Your choice is stored in your browser under dl-consent and you can change it by clearing your browser storage for this site.
Your language choice is also stored in your browser, under dl-lang, so the site opens in the same language next time. That value never leaves your browser.
8. Children
Mattarello is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything about anyone. Since the app has no account and stores no personal data with us, there is nothing about a child for us to hold.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, and to object to its processing. In practice this is straightforward for Mattarello: we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to hand over or erase.
- Data in the app: delete a recipe, empty the list, or delete the app to remove everything at once.
- Data in iCloud: managed by you in your iCloud settings; switching sync off in the app stops any further syncing.
- Data at Apple about your purchase: falls under Apple's privacy policy.
- Website analytics: only exists if you accepted it, and only in aggregate.
If you believe we are handling something wrongly, write to us first. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
10. Changes
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we update this page and the date at the top. Anything that would genuinely change what happens to your data will also be mentioned in the app itself.
11. Contact
